Mary Lou’s Mastermind: www.marylouharrisdesigns.com

MaryLou’s Background info:

  • MaryLou started out selling jewelry for friends. After a while she wanted to sell online.

  • MaryLou researched how to sell on eBay, Amazon, etc. and chose eBay and to open a store. However, she discovered that her jewelry doesn’t sell well on eBay. So, she’s been selling other products on eBay like wool blend tight from Germany that she bought at Nordstrom’s.

  • She talked to the Nordstrom’s merchandising mgr to help her find more Kunert wool and cotton tights. She’s having difficulty finding distributor for these tights.

  • She’s been selling the 2006 The Good Timing Guide but it’s not selling well (See).

  • She’s looking at some sort of specialty jewelry niche on eBay for her jewelry.

  • Her trading assistant business isn’t going very well and she’s not very enthusiastic about selling for other folks. She has gotten better about being selective and has turned down some inquiries.

  • She sold well at the Sauerkraut Festival in Scappoose, OR.

  • Her dream is to sit down design a piece of jewelry, photograph it, list it on eBay, sell it and ship it.

  • She needs to learn how to streamline her listing process. She’s downloaded TL2 but hasn’t used it yet.

  • MaryLou is thinking about marketing her jewelry for jewelry rentals: http://www.marylouharrisdesigns.com/jewelryrentals/.

  • Her financial goals are to get beyond covering her expenses. She isn’t doing that yet.

MaryLou’s Questions:

  • Please refer to her outline.

Additional group suggestions:

  • Join the bead societies across the region. Just google bead societies. Portland’s is: www.beadport.com. This will help you build clientele.

  • Advertise your http://www.marylouharrisdesigns.com/jewelryrentals/ on Craig’s list.
    http://www.kunert-usa.com/

  • Consider selling bead & jewelry making supplies.

  • Consider teaching at Discover U and Experimental U.

  • Consider offering kits.

  • Create a schedule each week so that you create a template in TL2 & work in SM Pro. Call Candy for help with SM Pro.

  • Send your PayPal account downloads to your bookkeeper.

  • You need focus and structure. It would be helpful if you create a monthly calendar, break it down weekly and then daily goals. This would help you manage all the terrific ideas you come up with.

  • Carry around notebook(s) to record your fabulous ideas. Find a way that works for you.

  • Sign up for www.endicia.com to print all your postage including customs forms. Go to www.usps.gov to schedule free pickup.

  • MaryLou needs to sit down and create solid goals like an exact number of how much you want to make each day. MaryLou’s homework is to come back with dollar figures for her goals next month.

  • Post your goals on the discussion board; Janelle will email it to the group and we can respond. Her goal is to generate $750 in sales by the end of October.

Special Guest Star: Shai, Janelle’s personal trainer

  • Janelle’s goal was to find a personal trainer and it took a while for her to find the right personal trainer. But she was fortunate to find and train with Shai.

  • Shai’s special gift is not his personal training but is his generous heart that motivates you and changes the way you think. Shai has taught Janelle a lot about body care, weight training, nutrition, weight loss, etc.

  • Janelle recommends reading the book Ultra Metabolism.

  • Janelle passed out a helpful chart about how this whole weight thing works.

  • You have to make a complete healthy change: cardio, weight loss, muscle mass.

  • You have to be healthy in order to be a successful entrepreneur! Who is going to run your business if you are sick or hurt?

  • Shai: when choosing a trainer, look at experience & what they do and personality. Make sure that trainer helps you understand your body. Each of you has different needs and you need to find the right fit.

  • Shai recommends that you write down what you want to ask the trainer and take it with you and interview.

  • Understand nutrition, portion sizes & timing. Figure out ways to portion out snacks and meals so that you don’t get caught. For Janelle, she doesn’t eat complex carbs after 6 pm, doesn’t eat after 9 pm. (Don’t eat 2 hours before bed.)

  • You have to make time to be healthy. It’s a choice.

  • You don’t have to work out for two hours. Pick a small goal and build slowly and gradually. Then it becomes part of your life.

  • Shai’s email: shaivchea@yahoo.com

Step 7 Smart Women Finish Rich:

  • Raising Smart Kids to finish rich. Talk to your kids about how to get started early and in the right way.

  • Grita bought the Smart Couples Finish Rich for her son and daughter in law.

  • Rebecca gave her son a punishment. He had to read the Automatic Millionaire book and give a book report. Now he wants a 401K.

  • Rina gave her son the Automatic Millionaire book. He said a Roth IRA is a gift from God.

  • Rina has taught her son how to manage a credit card.

  • Rebecca taught her son how to use a debit card and keep an interest bearing checking account.

  • Laura taught her son about invest now and retire early. Her son wanted to know if there are any other retirement schemes out there. He’s 9 and started a business: Peter’s neighborhood services: cat & dog sitting, weed pulling for .10 a weed, raking and snow shoveling.

  • Rina’s son’s business is Lawn Dogs: we haul grass.

  • MaryLou’s granddaughter won’t shop at Nordstrom and would prefer to go to thrift shops. She even bought her first car when she was 16. Mary Lou’s granddaughter has been financially responsible because her mother required it of her.

  • When Carole’s daughter wanted something, Carol made her pitch in ½ of her money towards a purchase. Claire is really financially responsible.

  • Kay’s daughter has read all of the Smart Women books. She’s really worked hard to educate herself financially and be financially responsible.

New Book:

  • Taming Your Inner Brat by Pauline Wallin Ph.D.

  • Why do women automatically sabotage themselves?

Unstoppable Homework:

  • Kay: her goal was to write family story & family memories. Her next step was to add a sleep schedule. Her 3rd step was to add 3 pages of brain drains. Her 4th week was to write 10 pages a day. Kay has written 261 pages in the last 30 days. Her frustration was just writing. Her greatest tool was corresponding with Harriet. Her most limiting belief was that she didn’t have enough time during the day. Her next challenge is sleep times.

  • Alice: her goal was to lose weight and become more fit. She had a hard time to get started. It took her 2 weeks to get started. Once she started she knew she could move forward consistently. She still got close to her goal and she’s lost about 7 lbs. out of the 10 lbs. She’s changed her eating patterns and portion sizes which made her feel much better. Her biggest defeating pattern was that there wasn’t enough time and feeling overwhelmed. She was motivated by the group and really wanting this goal to get her going.

  • Rina: her goal was to dedicate office space for her business. She’s been trying to organize this office for over 10 years. She went through every shelf and looked at every box in the closet. By day 3 she had to restructure the challenge. She couldn’t just clear space but she had to stop and do something with the stuff. She did get it done including putting up the office furniture. The hardest part was being overwhelmed by the amount of work. She got over it by telling herself to do a little bit at a time and ask for help.

I Rock:

  • Will wait until next month.
